Wrath of God
In the book of Numbers you hear of many accounts where god punishes and kills people one example is in Exodus chapter 16 where there are 2 times where god kills people with fire and a plague, the first one is in verse 2
"two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly" "rose up before Moses" rose up meaning ingratitude. then god told Moses in verse 21 "separate yourselves from among the congregation that i may consume them" consume meaning kill. Verse 35 says "and there came a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense"
The first time in Exodus chapter 16 god kills these men is because they "provoked the lord" and because they murmured against gods servants.
The second time in the chapter god sends a plague to his people is when the next day "all the congregation murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, ye have killed the people of the lord." God sends a plaque to the people and 14,700 people die.
I think it is interesting to think about how in the old testament people are killed by god which what seems to be merciless or cruel. Modern church leaders have said
-"Book of Mormon provides valuable information: “When ye shall cast out the righteous from among you, then shall ye be ripe for destruction” (Hel. 13:14). “And they perish because they cast out the prophets, and the saints, and stone them, and slay them” (2 Ne. 26:3).
Also we must understand that the bible as we have it today does not cover all dealings of humans with god but only contains parts of things so to not jump to conclusions easily about gods harshness mentioned in the scriptures.
